Studio Review: Reyn Studios, New Orleans
To kick-off our Studio Review series, we are reposting a review about one of our favorite studios, in one of my favorite cities. Enjoy!
————————————————
In honor of one of my favorite cities in the world, and in honor of the start of Jazz Fest (today!), here is my take on Reyn Studios in Nawlins.
I’ve made a lot of time for yoga in my life, that includes exploring the vast number of options locally and also hitting up studios when I travel. So starting now I am going to share my reviews of these studios-in the hopes you might find yourself seeking a class in one of these cities, and have a place that's been reviewed by someone you know or kind of know.
Keep in mind, often when traveling I am limited to visiting only once or twice at a studio, and we all know there can be a lot of diversity at studios with different teachers and types of classes offered.
Back to New Orleans...
If you find yourself in the city and you need a place to practice, go to Reyn. This place is amazing.
This studio is presented as an urban loft in a warehouse space in the CBD (Central Business District) or downtown section of New Orleans. There are not one, but two studios to practice in. The first is a wood floored, brightly lit, spacious room, and the other is a whimsical, painted, dreamy space for Yoga Nidra and restorative classes (pictured in the post). I have practiced in both, and both were equally successful at setting the yoga mood. But we can't judge a yoga studio by its cover. What was most memorable was that both of the classes, one taught by the owner Reyn and the other by an instructor named Shannon were both professionally executed vinyasa classes, strong and anatomically focused without sacrificing a true flow.
Reyn, in particular, won me over with her experience, knowledge, and passionate cues of how to position the body. As a newer teacher, I was inspired by the quality and depth of understanding of each pose and how she communicated what seemed like pure joy to be teaching.
I actually visited this studio almost three years ago, and it is purposely one of the first that I am choosing to write about after visiting many more around the world since then.
